jude releases a new album and shares his thoughts on christian hip-hop

Tell us how you became a part of Show Me Christ Records.

I was new to the Christian hip-hop scene and a co-worker of mine heard me playing inner light. I was invited to a yearly event “Running Out Demons” that he hosted and it was from there that I was linked up with Show Me Christ Records.

Were you always interested in music since you were a kid?

Yes, I was always interested in music.

It was therapy for me to release anger, frustration, hurt, and pain. As I began to grow and mature so did my music and longing for something greater in my life.

How would you describe your music style to someone who has never heard of your music before?

I’ve been told that my musical styles are similar to Eminem, and Kendrick. Just based on delivery, wordplay, and storytelling.

What do you think of the current state of the music industry today?

I believe the music industry is headed toward a direction where you will begin to see a mass injection of Christ-centered music in all genres.

Congrats on your debut album Inner Light. How long did the process take from start to finish?

First and foremost thank you, the process writing wise took approximately 6 months. The recording, mixing and mastering phase took approximately 5 months to 11 months total from start to finish.

What do you want the listeners to take away from it?

I want anyone listening to take away encouragement, hope, and motivation to become whatever it is they aspire to be.

The ultimate goal has always been to show God’s grace and mercy for my life that they may too begin to seek their own personal relationship for salvation.

What has been the most challenging aspect for you in the process of writing the album?

Being my own critic, I have a tendency to set a high standard for myself while writing, often times writing several version of the same song. So in essence self-criticism is the most challenging aspect of writing for me.

One of my favorites from the album is Mindset. What’s the backstory of the track?

The inspiration, so to speak?  The inspiration for this track came from listening to the people as it relates to police brutality, injustice. I took what everyone was saying around me and just gave my perspective on it.

Do you have a favorite from the songs you’ve done? And why?

One of my favorite songs from the album would be “Be Okay”. It depicts daily conflict and having to rely on GOD for strength, clarification, and understanding of purpose.

What are you currently working on? Any new materials on the horizon?

I’m currently working on my next project “Translucent” release date TBA. I’ll be releasing the first single “Major Way” Ft. J.U.S.T.I.F.I.E.D & OLIVER SAINT within the next month, so stay on the lookout for that track.

Will there be collaborations with other artists any time soon?

As a matter of fact, I have a new track Major Way ft. J.U.S.T.I.F.I.E.D & OLIVER SAINT dropping soon. Stay tuned to my Facebook artist page: JUDE, twitter TheArtistJude, Instagram: #Jude.

Let’s talk about your fans and your city. How are they?

They’re great to me, can’t believe that I would be in this position to have the platform that I have, but they are very welcoming whenever I hit the stage. Whether it’s a secular event or a Gospel event the fans have always been great.

Do you plan on touring also?

A tour is in the works and once everything is finalized it will be posted on all social media pages.
