Vic Mensa hit the internet with a power new video on Martin Luther King Jr. Day this week for “We Could Be Free”, featuring Ty Dolla $ign.
It begins with the image of a baby inside of his mother’s stomach. But, that peaceful image is quickly disturbed by a police officer, who strikes the woman during a protest. From there, we see powerful images, including a white police officer shooting an unarmed black man from the back.
“There’s a lot of division based on a lot of fear and I wanted to present an alternative that was without fear. That’s what the song represents,” Mensa explained in a recent interview with Apple’s Beats 1.
“We Could Be Free” appears on Vic Mensa’s debut album, The Autobiography, out now. Watch the video up top.
